A day spent on the farm

I'm blessed to have a brother and sister-in-law with a 10 or so acre sustenance farm and - bonus! - they live only an hour or so away.

Here was a recent visit. Can you tell Brady had fun? I think farms are so good for kids. If you don't have a family member with one, do a search for farm tours in your state. A Google search for farm tours in Kansas brought all these up. It's worth a try!
Miniature donkeys, the most adorable creatures!
The goats like jelly beans!
Fighting each other for food!
Bunch of roosters.
Feeding the horses. Geez, everybody's hungry.
They did this for about 20 minutes. I'm not sure which one had more fun.
Both worn out now.
I love this. These are volunteer cantaloupes that grew out of the flower bed compost. They made the best cantaloupes!

  2. I grew up on 5 acres with free reign of about 200. wWe had horses, chickens, rabbits, and ducks and geese on occasion. Our goal is to have something like that for the kids when we finally settle down. Brady looks like he loved your visit.

  3. We moved back to where I grew up. My parents live about ten minutes from our home. We love being able to go to the farm as well!

  4. Hi Steph. Looks like he had a great day on the farm. I always thought it would be great to have a farm, but my husband and I were not in agreement on that one. He was probably the wiser in some respects. I think we would have had difficulty taking care of everything. But I do love to see the animals, and nothing thrills me like watching something grow.

I finally got 2 tomato plants in the ground a while back and am currently watching 12 twelve tomatoes grow. I go out and check on them at least once a day. I just love watching things grow. Simple pleasures.

    1. I have to say, my brother and sis in law have a VERY hard time getting away, there's too much to do. They get a lot of help too. I think gardening is one of the best things in the whole world :)

  5. I think farms and the like are great places for kids. There is so much to learn about everything there. Not just about how food products get to our tables, but the whole way of life, work ethics, dedication, responsibility, and more. Brady looks like he had a blast! :)

    1. You're right, not just about food but about hard work and responsibility. I'm hoping as he gets older he will spend more time there, maybe helping out certain times of the year.
