Doubled reading goal = 1st Chuck E. Cheese trip!

The famous mouse.
Brady has yearned to go to Chuck E. Cheese for years. Our closest one is more than an hour away.

It was the perfect reward for meeting his summer reading goals and a great way to illustrate goal setting and achievement.

Our reading work  has continued up until this week when Brady went to spend 3 weeks with his Dad in Virginia.

After we passed his school's goal of 350 pages and he earned a trip to Chuck E. Cheese, he said, "I did my goal. We can stop now."
40 tokens for $10 lasts a LONG time.

"Oh no!" I said. "Let's make a new goal!"

So he set the goal of 650 pages and surpassed even that to 700. He'll get a trip to Sternberg Museum of Natural History when he gets back.

In the meantime, I'm amazed at the power of goals to keep him going. Though he did say, "Chuck E. Cheese wasn't as crazy as they showed on TV." A lesson in how commercials work too, I guess.

I think goal setting is something you can never start early enough, for them and for you!

    1. You know, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. And it wasn't as expensive as I thought either, so I actually wouldn't mind going back :)

  4. Aww looks like they had fun! Did you know CEC has a printable reading program...you can print it off their site and if you read every day for 2 weeks and take it in, you get 10 free tokens. My kids are in the midst of working on it. :)

  5. Congrats on surpassing his goals. Sounds like he's on the right track. As for Chuck-E-Cheese I hate going there. It seems like everyone had a birthday party there and I remember my son was about 8 we went to another party and he came back saying "mommy this place smells like feet". LOL I send hubby now whenever someone has a party. :)

    1. LOL, I've heard that from a few people about not liking CEC. It wasn't all that busy when we went as it was a Sunday afternoon, maybe. This one was very clean, had a good salad bar that we ate instead of pizza. I actually thought it was a lot better than what I imagined. It was in Wichita.

  6. Great job, Brady! I want all my kids to love reading--We have enough books at our house to have our own library, but we went to the library tonight and got 40 books for 4 kids!

    1. Thanks, Tammy! I feel like you, I hope to instill an appreciation for reading even if he doesn't love it. We have gone through SO many books and Brady gets attached to them. I can't keep them all, so we sell or give them away and get new ones. He sure loves being read TO, now I just need to get him excited about reading himself.
