Usually, the Great Value brand items are the least cents per pound or ounce or whatever the unit is. But not always. Just yesterday, Walmart's Great Value brand saltines were $1.68 (though occasionally they go on sale for 99 cents) but HomeKist brand is $1.08. A savings of 60 cents.
When buying tomato sauce, Great Value was 33 cents but Paradiso was 27 cents. Another 12 cents on those two cans. I've noticed this with canned vegetables and other items as well.
So, it's worth taking the time to determine which is the actual best value/cheapest when you're trying to save on groceries.
