According to this article, Wichita has received the 2nd largest snowfall on record, reaching so far 14.2 inches, with the highest being 15 inches in January 1962.
Still don't know our totals here, but read 17 inches in Hays. I imagine we're at 14.
"A snowstorm elbowed its way into the record books as it laid siege to
Wichita and much of the rest of Kansas on Thursday, bringing traffic to
a virtual standstill.
Overnight snowfall was so heavy that whiteout conditions were being reported in and near Wichita as the morning commute began.
“Emergency
vehicles are getting stuck,” National Weather Service meteorologist
Vanessa Pearce said. “They’re advising people to stay off the roads.”
This must be welcome news for all Kansans regarding needed moisture for the upcoming crops. Have fun. Have nice memories of big snows in Kansas in the 1960's.
